6 years ago today I woke up in a hospital bed at Bellevue Hospital on the lower east side of Manhattan. I had this extremely clear sequence of events that had to have been a nightmare. But unfortunately for me, it was all true. On August 6th 2006 Joshua Martinez made an illegal left turn with his black Honda that I will never forget.
Thank you all who have donated this year to Dana Farber, it has been a record year for donations; over $7,200 and I just got another donation this past week. So if you have yet to donate there is still time, if you want to donate again, no one is stopping you. My teammates and I are still on Mission Possible: A World Without Cancer. Unfortunately our efforts are still battling with two of my teammates losing their father’s in the last 3 weeks to cancer.
My work with Dana Farber is the beginning of my legacy. What is your legacy? Every year I ask all of you to go out and do something unselfish; something you will never actually see the rewards from. Have you done that?
On this 6 year anniversary of my 2nd chance, I thank you for all your continued support and I urge you to go out and find your legacy and be grateful for the gifts you have and for each day we breath.
For JohnnyMarathon I am still searching. But I know I am close to getting that smile back. I have juggled some of the most imaginative fall racing situations in my head. One of them included a half ironman, in September, the Chicago Marathon in October, and than IM Cozumel in November. But unfortunately I am still addressing John and taking care of things on my end. So come April 15th 2013 with the help of Dana Farber I can once again make that valiant effort to break 3 hours in a marathon and get my BQ (Boston Qualifier) back. I have been racing here and there and having fun with it; and somehow I am placing in my age group at every race I do…
2012 Thank Cards should be coming soon and before you know it 2013 fundraising kits will be on their way as well.Thank you, Happy Anniversary and www.JohnnyMarathon.com
