Run for Sherry

Like many runners around the area, nation and world, I took to the roads yesterday - February 11th, 2012 - to run the Virtual Run for Sherry.  Beth, from Shut Up and Run, Sherry's cousin organized this run, and runners all over the world pounded the pavement, the treadmills and tracks in the memory of Sherry.
Thank you for putting this together Beth, Shut Up & Run
After motivating through the wintery mix that was falling outside, and bundling up in my leggings, under armor shirt, jacket and hat & gloves, I mapped out a 10 mile route around the city, down to the Esplanade (which is a really pretty bike path around the Charles River, through Cambridge and Back Bay).  I knew this would not be the easiest run, as I was feeling slightly under the weather and knew it would be a cold start, but I also knew that I was incredibly blessed to have the option that morning to get up and run, I was able to get up and run and use my legs, unlike Sherry.  Sherry was unable to finish her run, in fact, she had just barely begun it.  This run was in honor of her and in honor of all women runners, who will not back down.  We will continue to run, and we will continue to be strong - as that is how I believe Sherry would want it and I think she was smiling down on us while runners across the globe ran in her name.

I completed 10.4 miles in 1:24 and just as I was walking up to my stoop, the flurries subsided and the sky started to clear up. By the time I had showered and had my smoothie, the sky was sunny - I couldn't help but smile up and think of Sherry.
