Greetings Everyone,
Great to be writing as JohnnyMarathon again.
Training has been going just ok. Some weeks are good, some weeks are bad.
5 Weeks until Boston and 10 weeks until I become an IRONMAN!
This week I am tweaking my training so it works best with my schedule and I am not dreading every morning and night; so far so good.
Thank you so much for all who have donated. It was a pleasure to go to Somers Friday night and see a handful of donations came in the mail. Thank You so much!!!
I don't want to call anyone out but a heart filled thank you for Hank Grazioso and the Gartner family for their never ending support of Dana Farber
I am doing this to spread the campaign of our Mission, Mission Possible: A World Without Cancer. I saw one of the most touching movies this weekend and I recommend everyone to see it. 50/50. A fantastic movie about a young 27-year-old man who is diagnosed with cancer. The movie is touching. It takes you through every emotional and physical challenge the actor, his friends, and his family go through during his battle with cancer. Please watch it. Maybe than you will believe in Mission Possible.
This week I received Dana Farber’s 2011 Honor Roll of Donors. I was so proud to be among Donald Trump, Robert Kraft, Lance Armstrong, Tim Wakefield, Clay Buckholz, Senator John Kerry, and thousands of others who believe in Mission Possible.
And I am proud to see a handful of you following your quest for a healthier lifestyle. Niall is running is first marathon this summer, Nate ran is first half marathon in October, Michelle signed up for her first triathlon for September, my cousin Vicki completed her first marathon in November and my proudest, my sister is doing her second Avon Breast Cancer walk.
To inspire the uninspired. That’s all I want to do.
Please help me battle Mission Possible: A World Without Cancer.

Marathon #3
Boston Marathon
April 21st 2008
Sunny High of 57, perfect running conditions
My first Boston, I didn’t feel like I belonged. And my first experience with Dana Farber. Two ways to get into Boston, qualify under ridiculously fast qualifying times at another marathon, my sex and age I needed a sub 3:10:59, or be blessed by a charity entry. I chose to work with Dana Farber because of their global presence and their positive strides in the battle against cancer. With rebuttal programs such as the Jimmy Fund and Harvard Medical College, I knew I was getting involved with something great. But my entry wasn't an easy one. I actually got in with Dana Farber for the 2007 marathon, unfortunately, I got hit by a car, there went that. When I was ready to try Boston again Dana Farber actually wait listed me. he Boston Children's hospital accepted me. I was excited about the project but I wanted Dana Farber. A few short weeks after Children's Hospital confirmed my entry, I got a call from Dana Farber; I was in! I was so excited to be part of the greatest marathon on Earth. I did not know what to think of the course. I saw a course video at the expo that scared the crap out of me. That video now brings chills to my bones every year. I was wearing my Dana Farber bid and for that day my name was “Go Dana”. I was amazed how much love and support came form this blue-collar crowd. During the race I met up with my teammate Lindsey for the first time. We were able to run together for a while before I lost her at a family meeting area. I remember seeing my parents and sister throughout the source. My sister, as always, had a sweet sign for JohnnyMarathon. My recollection of the actual race does escape me but I did it. I broke 4 hours for the first time. I remember the finish and meeting up with my parents. I gave my dad a hug. And if you now Big John and mine’s relationship, hugs between us occur once a decade. I remember hugging him and saying “I did it dad”.

Marathon #4
Berlin Marathon
September 28th, 2008
Sunny 50 degrees
This entire trip was an experience. I traveled to Berlin with my parents and it was my first time to Germany since 2006. It was amazing to being running over seas for the first time. I remember the beginning of the race. There were hundreds of military style tents set up with cots for the runners to rest prior. And post race, these tents became a nudist colony of runners. This race was huge, over 40,000 runners. It went fast. I remember not being able to understand anything on the course. No one spoke English, no American flags, and running a marathon my German wasn’t up to par as it should have been. I paced with a guy from Italy that kept me entertained for most of the race. Races over seas are in kilometers not miles. Kilometers go fast! And I had no clue how many kilometers were in a marathon. I did have an interesting experience at an early water stop. I grabbed a cup of warm tea not knowing what it was. Yuk!! We finished under the Brandenburg Gate, amazing! That day a new Marathon World Record was set by Haile, something like 2:03. An amazing day. And at the finish line…what else besides German beer. From there I was off to Oktoberfest. I flew down to Munich and experienced the festival for a few nights. And just my luck, I missed my flight back to NY, and I was sober.
